Reverse Osmosis

Using water from a Reverse Osmosis water filtration system is the best possible water you could use in your water feature.

Why should I use a Reverse Osmosis system, what’s wrong with the water coming from my tap?

It may sound like a bold statement to make, that R.O. water is the best water for your water feature, but it’s important to understand why. In most cases, the biggest issue we find when performing maintenance on our features is hard water build up – the same white stuff that may build up around the tap of your kitchen sink. Hard water build up, calcification, and lime scale, are all just other terms for the result of having a lot of minerals in the water. Minerals, such as sodium and calcium, don’t evaporate with water. Instead, minerals will stick around – and we mean they will literally stick.

Our technicians are trained to efficiently deal with mineral build up in our features, we have methods and procedures that have been working for us for a very long time. Ultimately, though, the best thing you can do is to minimize the amount of minerals being let into the fountain in the first place. Reverse Osmosis filters out many things, such as contaminants like arsenic, nitrates, copper and lead, some organic chemicals, and the municipal additive fluoride; and, since most mineral particles (including sodium, calcium, magnesium, magnesium, and iron) are larger than water molecules, they are also removed by the semi-permeable membrane of the R.O. system.

Our bodies still need minerals. Without the minerals in the water, looking at acidity level of the water on the pH scale, the water would be very much more on the acidic side. If you were going to use this water for drinking purposes, we would still recommend remineralizing the water first. For your water feature, though, this water is exactly what it needs to run smoothly for a much longer period of time with minimal maintenance!
